Joe Hahn of Linkin Park recently took time to invite a small handful of lucky LPU members to an intimate shooting of his new film “Mall”. The event took place at the Eagle Rock Plaza in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday night, May 9, 2012. A handful of 7 eager fans, myself included, arrived fashionably early at the scene in hopes of getting a glimpse of the set, and the inside scoop about the making of the film. LPU event head coordinator Adam Ruehmer arrived on time, greeted us, and craftily answered many of our prying questions about the upcoming album, LIVING THINGS, forthcoming tour announcements, LPU, and all other things Linkin Park.

Linkin Park – Short Wait For Linkin Park Album

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda says the band are always working on new material and fans should not have to wait too long for band’s new album.

The musician revealed the ‘Shadow of the Day’ group are constantly writing new material for their follow up to ‘A Thousand Suns’ and as he has recently been busy writing the score for Indonesian film ‘The Raid’, he concedes it could affect the sound of the group.

He said: “We are always writing. I’m not sure how my participation on The Raid might affect the next Linkin Park album . we’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long.”

One way in which the new Linkin Park sound could be affected is by the lack of electric guitars used in the movie’s soundtrack.

Mike told ArtistDirect.com: One of the things that I decided to do early on was essentially abandon the use of electric guitars in this score. Guitars seemed to take it in a mookish, ostentatious direction, which is not the tone of this film. But there are moments when the score wanted to get super heavy, so I achieved it by making my own super-distorted percussive and melodic sounds. I also enlisted the help of Joe Trapanese, who was Daft Punk’s scoring partner on ‘Tron: Legacy’. He’s from a composer / arranger background, and we played off each other’s ideas really well.”

Mike Shinoda Scoring Film “The Raid”

For a long time, I have been wanting to score a film. In order for it to work, it would have to have a great story, stunning visuals, and the timing would have to work out in a way that didn’t distract from all the things I want to do with Linkin Park.

I’m really excited to have finally found the right project. The movie is called The Raid. Its intense martial arts choreography, amazing cinematography, and great story have been inspiring all kinds of new music. I’m excited for all of you to see—and hear—this film.

This is the trailer. There is some violence in it, so beware!

Update: There is also a press release about this:

Culver City, CA (September 9, 2011) – Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has teamed-up with LINKIN PARK’s Mike Shinoda to create an entirely new musical score for the ultra-intense action picture THE RAID, starring break-out martial arts sensation Iko Uwais (Merantau) and Joe Taslim (Rasa).

This collaboration will mark Shinoda’s first feature score.
