There have been many adaptations of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations -- from Alfonso Cuaron's 1998 modern-day vision with Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke, to the more recent PBS miniseries with Gillian Anderson. But the last big-screen version that kept the classic tale firmly rooted in the 1860s hit theaters back in 1946 -- and won two Academy Awards.

So must be about time for a new rendition.
